MeadWestvaco will indefinitely idle the No. one paper machine at the company’s paperboard mill in Evadale, TX. The shutdown is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2006, according to the company.
The action is taken as a result of substantial increases in input costs and is consistent with MeadWestvaco’s approach to eliminating excess capacity while improving efficiency across the bleached board operations. The company said it expects 50-75 positions to be affected.

MeadWestvaco also announced the debut of its new packaging innovation center located in Richmond, VA. The facility features demonstrations of packaging technologies and capabilities in an informative environment.
